Mazda's Electric Miata
concept car
http://www.greencar.com/perspective/mazda-miata-electric-car/

Factory electric with 16 NiCad batteries giving it a range of 116 miles. Too bad it never saw production

1991

Les Marsh

http://www.miata.net/motm/2003/marsh.html

Nice conversion with lots of detailed touches, but Les, is that an alternator hiding under the controller?

1990

Andrew Schwarz http://home.comcast.net/~aschwarz7/

Another clean conversion - this one with A/C (!) and power steering. Extra points for the color matching battery racks.

1992

Paul Becke http://www.electricmiata.org/

Not much goin' on here... Either Paul lost his camera and internet connection or the car was never finished. Nice domain name, though.

1996

Joe Harris http://www.flickr.com/photos/78779152@N00/

Nice car. 120 volts, 26 mile range, but Joe, what's with the duct tape holding down the Curtis controller?

William Kemp "Zero Carbon Car" http://aztext.com/ZCC_photo_montage.cfm

A bio-diesel hybrid Miata with the motor acting as a charger a-la Chevy Volt. Looks like an interesting conversion. I guess I'll need to buy the book to find out more...

I've heard there are a number of Miata conversions in the San Diego EV club. This is a link to the Flickr album of one of their events with a professionally converted Miata is seen. Like to find out some more about the car, but this is all I could find. Flickr won't let you copy pictures, so you'll have to visit the site to see what this one looks like.

1990

Ian Hooper http://www.zeva.com.au/registry.php?id=1

Outstanding conversion from down under - 40 Thundersky Lithium batteries and the goal to be the fasted electric car in the Southern Hemisphere! Nice build blog too.

2000

Pat Beirne http://www.evalbum.com/174

20 Optimas in "buddy pairs" delivering 120 volts to a Curtis 1231C. Just wish Pat posted more pictures of the works (just where did he stuff those 20 batteries?).

1990

Bill Theeringer http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Composite_Aircraft_Accessories/electric.htm

Bill's car was one of the first I found on the 'net and was an inspiration for me. I emailed him with a bunch of questions and used is battery layouts as a model for mine. Amazingly, I saw his car (and this picture to the left) on a bunch of eco/green sites. Not that it's a bad car, but of all the conversions in all the world they pick one that needs bodywork?

Know of an electric Miata that ought to be included? Click here.
